How-To Install an Upper Cabinet

Install your DIY kitchen like a professional today!

Upper cabinet installation is not dissimilar to base cabinet installation. It is helpful to have a second person assist with upper cabinet installation.

How-To Install an Upper Cabinet

1

Start by removing the doors from the cabinet

For information on how to remove a door, see our How-To Remove and Attach a Cabinet Door video.
2

Next, remove the brown protective glides

Glides are on the top of the cabinet, and are used for transportation.
3

Place the cabinet in position

Upper cabinets can either be held in place, or supported by a stand. If you're holding the cabinet in place, use a clamp to secure it level.
4

Drill pilot holes

5

Using 28mm screws, screw from the inside of the cabinet through to the other cabinet at the front and back to secure together

Place the front screws to the front of the hinge plate, so that they will be hidden when the door is on. Screw the first cabinet to the wall before adding any others. For every additional cabinet, first secure to the cabinet alongside, and then to the wall.
6

Once cabinets have been secured to each other, secure them to the wall

How the cabinet is attached to the wall depends on the wall type. See our Cabinet to Wall Fixing Guide for more information.
7

Return the doors to the cabinet

For information on how to attach a door, see our How-To Remove and Attach a Cabinet Door video.
